The Freedom Bowl

Humans come first

To celebrate the freest of all folks: the Blood Bowl Players in the Pacific Northwest, the Freedom bowl is being ran yet again on July 7th, 2024.

For all Mankind

The Freedom Bowl celebrates Humans of all types, especially Blood Bowl players, and this tournament is designed to encourage folks to bring their best Humanity has to offer... in the form of Human blood bowl teams.

Team Builds

Human teams are Tier 1 and receive 1.2 million gold plus 36 SPPs to be spent on skills (no random skills). All other teams are Tier 2  and receive 900k gold plus 12 SPPs.

A star player may be your eleventh player. Each player may only receive one additional skill, each skill may be added to the team no more than twice, no stat increases are allowed, and no additional skills may be given to a star player.

Inducements:

You may purchase any regular BB 2020 inducements (with the exception of giants, stadiums, referees, special balls, sponsors, wizards, Halfling hot pots, mercenaries and special play cards). You and your opponent may field the same star players because...it's a free country! However, hiring Griff Oberwald or Morg and Thorg costs 24 skill points in addition to their gold cost.

The Nitty Gritties (Rules)

Weather

Top Table will roll for initial weather for all tables.

Illegal Procedure

Illegal Procedure will not be called.

Timing

The 2 hour rounds WILL be strictly enforced. You will receive ‘Time Remaining’ updates from the Tournament Organizer to help you stay on pace. If your game is running significantly behind, the Tournament Organizer may enforce stricter time restrictions. DO NOT begin another turn if there is not enough time for both players to complete the entire turn. With 2 hour games, the use of 4 minute timers is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED.

Dice

Coaches will decide between themselves whether they will or will not share dice. Regardless of the agreement between the coaches, EITHER coach at ANY time may request that both coaches share the same set of dice and both are required to do so. Only GW/NAF Block Dice and D6’s may be used.

Sportsmanship

We are here for the fun of the game. Sportsmanship is not only encouraged from the coaches it is required! Fouling 16 turns in a row and running up the score is not poor sportsmanship, in fact that behavior is incentivized in the point-scoring rules. However, gloating and ridiculing your opponent while doing so is. Let’s do our part for the community.

Scoring

• A WIN is worth 60pts

• A DRAW is worth 30pts

• A LOSS is worth 10pts

• Touchdowns - Every Touchdown that you score earns +1 bonus pt

• Casualties - Every CAS against an opponent (including fouling, special weapons, or crowd pushes, thrown players causing an injury) earns +1 bonus pt (but not failed dodges, gfis, thrown rocks, etc.)

Tiebreakers

The Scoring system includes sufficient bonus points to get the most accurate representation of how everyone has performed and differentiate coaches. If, by chance there is a tie in Tournament points, the ties will be broken in this order:

1) A Human team, 2) Head to head 3)Net TDs, 4) Net casualties

Game Play

• Turn models that have completed their action to face you, turn them around to face your opponent at the end of your turn

• Reroll all cocked dice. Declare the purpose of your roll before you roll the dice. An action may not be taken back once dice are rolled.

• Declare all actions before moving your model. Move players into each square when they move, including moving around a square instead of dodging through.

• Teams should be fully painted and based.

• Each position on the team should be easily identifiable.

• Skill/stat upgrades on your team must be easily identifiable to your opponent using skills rings/bands or some other system. Simply providing your roster is not enough.

• Each model on team clearly numbered and match your roster.

The tournament will use a random schedule for the first round, and Swiss pairings for the remaining rounds.

Awards

Spread The Wealth - A coach may only win one award. If they are in line to win more than one award, they will be asked which one they would prefer and the next coach in line will be given the other award. Tournament organizers reserve the right to adjust the awards. Awards will be given for 1st Place, Most Casualties, Most Touchdowns, Best Defense, Best Stunty Team, and Player’s Choice (painting, modelling).
